Is New York City a safe place?

The good news is that as large cities go New York is considered very safe. But its also a reality that like any major city with lots of people New York City has its dangers.

Crime, including violent crime, occurs in sometimes very random patterns around the city. The large amount of vehicle traffic and congestion in the streets contributes to lowering the safety of certain streets. Individual carelessness also contributes to unsafe situations around the city.
